We must realise that we are all Interconnected. The
Bees, Trees and Seas. I was therefore so pleased to see and take a pic of a Tree
Bee!
As a keen veg and fruit grower, I realise how important the bees are for
pollinating our food. They pollinate a wide range of food crops, including
fruits, nuts, herbs, spices and vegetables.
We can thank bees for apple, asparagus, aubergine, avocado, broccoli, brussels sprouts,
cauliflower, cucumber, onions, pumpkin, squash and strawberry.
Without bees, food production would fall
dramatically.
So without our garden helpers there would be hardly any fresh food at all!
The bees are a main part of our community food growing project, The Great
BiG Earth DiG. Without them There would be no point in the Earth Diggers,
digging at all!
So Thank You Bees.
Keep up the Great Work, Respect!
Site owner's comment: Great, thank you Jakey!
The figure banded about is that bees pollinate about a third of the food we eat - and it's generally the most interesting, vitamin rich part - the kinds of fruits and vegetables you mention.
As far as I'm concerned, growing food and helping bees go hand in hand. Bees like to visit many of the fruit and veg we like to grow. I think growing your own is healthier for the environment than intensive agriculture: mono-crops and with high chemical use.
Thanks again!
Also, here is a page about growing fruit and vegetables....with a little help from the bees.
You can read more about the Tree Bee (Bombus hypnorum) here.
